Job Title: Elementary Principal
Responsible to: Assistant Superintendent for Instruction
Qualifications: Valid teaching certificate and appropriate certificate to act as a principal in the state of Missouri.
Primary Function: To use leadership supervisory and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student.
General Responsibilities: The educational leader promotes the success of all students by:
- Promoting a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community.
- Promoting a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
- Promoting a safe efficient and effective learning environment by ensuring the management of the organization.
- Collaborating with families and community members.
- Acting with integrity fairness and in an ethical manner.
- Understanding responding to and influencing the legal political and cultural context.
Specific Duties:
- Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
- Develops a building level plan that is designed to improve student achievement and is aligned to the districts Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.
- Evaluates all aspects of the educational process to ensure they promote the vision of the school.
- Analyzes student performance on standardized tests and state standards to determine the effectiveness of instruction and student learning.
- Plans professional development activities for the staff to promote the vision of learning outlined in the building level plan.
- Plans organizes and directs implementation of all school activities.
- Keeps the superintendent informed of the schools activities and problems.
- Makes recommendations concerning the schools activities and problems.
- Develops and evaluates educational programs to ensure conformance to state and school board standards.
- Develops and coordinates educational programs through meetings with staff review of teachers activities and issuance of directives.
- Confers with teachers students and parents concerning educational and behavioral problems in school.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with colleges community organizations and other schools to coordinate educational services.
- Requisitions and allocates supplies equipment and instructional material as needed.
- Directs preparation of class schedules cumulative records and attendance reports.
- Observes and evaluates teacher performance.
- Monitors school building and property for safety and security.
- Plans and monitors school budget.
- Assists with the development and administration of educational programs for students with mental or physical handicaps.
- Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the schools staff and students.
- Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
- Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.
- Leads in the development determination of appropriateness and monitoring of the instructional program.
- Schedules classes within established guidelines to meet student needs.
- Assists in the development revision and evaluation of the curriculum.
- Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct; maintains student discipline.
- Attends school-sponsored activities and functions.
- Manages various local funds generated by student activities.
- Assumes responsibility for the attendance conduct and maintenance of health of students.
- Assumes responsibility for personal professional growth and development through membership and participation in professional organizations through attendance at regional state and national meetings through enrollment in advanced courses etc.
- Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings reading professional journals and other publications and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
- Supervises all professional paraprofessional administrative and non-certified staff in the school.
- Assists in the recruiting screening hiring orientation training assigning and evaluating of the schools professional staff.
- Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance. Recommends according to established procedures the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory.
- Conducts staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes new programs and keeping the vision alive.
- Plans and supervises fire drills and other emergency preparedness programs.
- Provides for adequate inventories of property under his/her jurisdiction and for the security and accountability of that property.
- Participates in principals meetings.
- Responds to written and oral requests for information.
- Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releases.
- Organizes and administers the public relations program for the school.
- Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the superintendent.
- Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
