About the Position

Start your career in fleet maintenance with the City of Saint Paul as a Vehicle Technician Trainee.In this hands-on role youll learn from experienced technicians while servicing repairing and maintaining the vehicles and equipment that keep our city running. Additionally this position qualifies for a Student Sponsorship opportunity providing financial support and career development as you train. Its a great chance to gain valuable mechanical skills earn your Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and build a long-term career in public service.Heres what you can expect to do:

Assist experienced technicians in cleaning servicing and repairing city vehicles and equipment.
Learn to use shop tools and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively to complete maintenance tasks.
Help identify and repair mechanical issues on a variety of vehicles from trucks to fire apparatus.
Use computer systems to track maintenance repairs and parts used in daily operations.
Work as part of a team to maintain a safe clean shop and deliver great service to city departments.

Please note: This positions assigned schedule may include a variety of shifts nights weekends and holidays

Position Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D drivers license or equivalent out-of-state drivers license. Must obtain and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with no restriction for airbrakes within twelve months of appointment.
