Here is a unique opportunity to join the Factory Assembled Structure (FAS) program and help us keep Washington safe and working.

As an FAS Plan Examiner you will review plans for modular buildings manufactured and mobile homes commercial coaches vendor units (food trucks) mobile medical units temporary worker housing and recreational park trailers for compliance with state laws regulations codes and standards.

You will have the opportunity to conduct inspections of building structures constructed in factories for conformance to the codes adopted by the Washington State Building Code addition you will interact with the public industry professionals and internal consumers related to building codes plan review and inspections.

The duty station for this position will be Tumwater WA. This position is remote in nature with occasional requirement to travel to the office.

Duties

Some of what you will do:

  • Reviews interprets and approves building plans for factory built commercial structures and factory built housing including structural design fire and life safety designs (for example fire resistant assemblies and emergency exiting systems) energy use design plumbing systems fire sprinkler systems and mechanical systems; compares such plans to state adopted building codes and established national standards and requires non-complying designs to be corrected before approving
  • Reviews construction plans for manufactured homes mobile homes commercial coaches vendor/medical units temporary worker housing for compliance with applicable Washington Administrative Code (WAC) and Revised Code of Washington (RCW) national regulations codes and standards relating to fire/life safety structural plumbing electrical mechanical and energy code requirements.
  • Writes plan review reports to manufacturers contractors and owners listing deviations from rules and laws which require correction and notifying the applicant of the actions necessary to obtain departmental approval of the plans.
  • Processes and issues approved plans for manufacturers contractors and owners consisting of noting plans with corrections of minor deviations and for items for inspector verification entering relevant information into the FAS program databases and spreadsheets making additional copies of the approved plan for agency records and local building officials.
  • Approves applications from manufacturers contractors and owners for the agencys official insignia of approval specific to plans that are approved by the FAS program.
  • Verifies that all required plan review and insignia fees due to the agency have been paid before issuing approved plans or insignia.
  • Participates in phone calls meetings and discussions with various consumers industry professionals stakeholder groups and departmental staff. Provides assistance as it relates to interpreting program regulations and related statutes codes and standards. Provides training and assistance to all internal and external customers as related to building plans program laws rules and regulations as well as WA State and national codes and standards.
  • Inspects construction at factories and on building sites of any type of factory-built unit regulated by the FAS program for compliance with state laws and regulations national regulations codes and standards relating to fire/life safety structural plumbing electrical and mechanical energy.
  • Provides complete and accurate inspection reports factory permits and invoices for all inspections performed listing all deviations found corrections approved and all inspection fees due to the agency.

Qualifications


Required:
Five years of experience:

  • As a plans examiner or commercial building inspector with governmental jurisdiction.
  • OR
    • At journey-level in the building construction trades/craft(s) such as a licensed plumber or electrician including one year of experience in an official capacity reviewing and approving building plans for construction.
  • OR
    • As a supervisor of building construction in the manufacture or inspection of manufactured homes factory built commercial buildings commercial coaches factory-built housing RVs PMRVs conversion vendor units mobile medical units or factory built temporary worker housing.
  • College training in structural electrical or mechanical engineering or architecture may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the five years of experience.
  • Certification by the International Code Council as a building plans examiner building official or building inspector.

Desired:
  • Current Building Inspector Certificate issued by International Code Council.
  • Current Building Plans Examiner Certificate issued by International Code Council.
  • Engineering or Architecture License.

For this position telework is permitted full time dependent upon business needs. The assigned duty station for this position is in Tumwater WA.
