Job Summary

Join our Group Benefits Technology Team!

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Manager to join a strong dedicated team to lead high-visibility projects at the forefront of Group Benefits.

This role involves driving the development and maintenance of a suite of APIs (GraphQL Java Springboot) that underpin our user-facing digital assets. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background excellent leadership skills and a passion for driving innovation and excellence as the team transforms our applications and ways of working to deliver reliable experiences to our Memberand Sponsor customers.

Position Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead mentor and develop software engineers working on API frameworks and Cloud technologies (GraphQL Java Azure K8s)

  • Foster a collaborative and engaging team environment through effective communication and team-building activities.

  • Identify and address skill gaps by providing training mentorship and opportunities for professional development to ensure ongoing skill enhancement and career growth.

  • Support the on-call team providing leadership and acting as the primary point of contact for critical issues to ensure timely and effective resolution.

  • Foster a culture of innovation collaboration and continuous improvement within the team.


Engineering Management:

  • Ensure alignment to industry practices coding standards and design patterns to maintain high-quality code.

  • Be responsible for the entire software development lifecycle including planning design development testing deployment and maintenance.

  • Drive test automation deployment and release strategies to improve the quality and speed to market.

  • Conduct regular security audits to identify and mitigate potential security risks.

  • Collaborate with security teams to address vulnerabilities raised through penetration testing and ensure ongoing security improvements.

  • Drive contribution process and governance for an inner-source development model.


Project Management:

  • Facilitate agile ceremonies such as quarterly planning sprint planning daily stand-ups and retrospectives.

  • Assess and prioritize work impact and alignment with organizational goals.

  • Efficiently allocate resources and assign tasks to team members ensuring optimal use of skills and expertise.

  • Supervise and report on project progress identifying and addressing any issues or risks.

  • Ensure progress against important targets where consistent and coordinated implementation is required.


Incident Management:

  • Lead the incident management process including identification prioritization and resolution of production issues.

  • Coordinate and connect with relevant collaborators during incident resolution ensuring timely updates and transparency.

  • Be responsible for investigations into root cause analysis for major incidents and drive corrective actions to prevent recurrence.


Technical Guidance:

  • Lead the team to deliver on non-functional requirements and acquire necessary approvals on documentation (architecture risk approvals support handovers).

  • Lead disaster recovery activities to ensure the organization can quickly recover from any unexpected events and maintain business continuity.

  • Direct the management and enhancement of observability tools and platforms ensuring they deliver actionable insights and facilitate proactive incident management.

  • Lead performance tuning initiatives by analyzing system performance metrics and logs to identify potential bottlenecks performance issues and areas for improvement driving optimal system efficiency and reliability.


Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in leading and developing a team of engineers.

  • Understanding of API frameworks and experience in building modern business critical API applications.

  • Strong understanding of security processesand experience in implementing security features.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Proven track record of successfully delivering applications from concept to deployment.

  • Experience working in a Scaled agile development environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Salary range is expected to be between

$94220.00 CAD - $174980.00 CAD
