Description
The Peer Support Specialist on the Mobile Crisis Team upholds the core principles of Peer Support which include mutuality reciprocity a non-directive approach being recovery focused strengths based inclusive and safe. The Peer Support Specialist functions as a fully integrated team member to provide expertise in crisis stabilization and the recovery process. The Peer Support Specialist collaborates to promote a team culture that recognizes understands and respects each clients point of view experiences and preferences. This individual follows Practice Guidelines for addressing Mental Health Emergencies advanced by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and assist the team in fulfilling our obligations under the Scope of Work covered in relevant State Contracts. Responsible to maximize client choice self-determination and decision-making in the planning delivery and evaluation of treatment rehabilitation and support services. Provides peer counseling and consultation to individual clients and families along with consultation to team staff; acts as a liaison with community resources; carries out rehabilitation and support functions; and assists in treatment substance abuse services education support and consultation to families and crisis intervention under the clinical supervision of staff with professional degrees.
Requirements
- Must have a strong commitment that all with severe and persistent mental illness have the right and ability to live in normal community residences work in market jobs and have access to helpful adequate competent and continuous supports and services.
- 2 years experience in community based psychosocial rehabilitation treatment or Case Management Services.
- Direct personal life experiences and/or experience with close family members may substitute for some or all of the experience requirement.
- Bachelors Degree preferred but NOT required.
- Must have a valid drivers license and reliable vehicle.
