Polaroid was founded in 1937 by one of the most seminal innovators of the 20th century Edwin Land. His motto was dont undertake a project unless it is manifestly important and nearly 2008 Polaroid shuttered its last factory but a group of diehard fans came together as The Impossible Project to save instant film. Over 10 years later that startup acquired what was left of Polaroid and today were again a small group of people passionate about changing the world through great products.

Job Summary:

Were building the next generation of color science at Polaroid and were looking for someone who can bring both scientific knowledge and hands-on skills to the this role youll bridge traditional film and optical systems with modern digital imaging helping define how color should work across our cameras printers apps and film.

Youll work with hardware firmware and software teams to translate color requirements into real-world tools and workflows. Your work will shape how our products capture process and reproduce color from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the color science roadmap for cameras displays and print systems.

  • Define measurable color and tone targets based on product and user needs.

  • Build test and maintain LUTs ICC profiles and other color transforms.

  • Develop internal tools for evaluating color accuracy and consistency.

  • Set up and run lab sessions experiments and color tests using charts lighting controls and calibration gear.

  • Collaborate with firmware and imaging teams to help translate color models into tuning parameters.

  • Build shared reference libraries and help standardize color workflows across product teams.

  • Partner with film R&D to understand and align digital and analog color experience.

  • Test and validate color performance in prototypes and production builds.

Qualifications:

  • A solid foundation in color science and human visual perception.

  • Experience creating or working with LUTs ICC profiles or similar color workflows.

  • Hands-on skills in Python MATLAB or similar tools for analysis and simulation.

  • Experience using color calibration equipment and environments.

  • Ability to turn qualitative or creative targets into measurable specifications.

  • Comfortable working across hardware software and film science teams.

  • Personal interest in photography or imaging systems and how color affects the results.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in both physical and digital color systems.

  • Previous work in camera printer or display product development.

  • Familiarity with imaging pipelines but this is not a pure ISP role.
