Transcription Assistant - Women Air Service Pilots Project
Mission Statement:
To foster a deepening understanding of the past by collecting preserving and sharing the historically significant memories of individuals according to the highest ethical and professional standards; to work with scholars across disciplines to design and execute innovative research projects; to equip community groups in their oral history endeavors; and to mentor students in the interdisciplinary field of oral history.
Job Summary:
- Primarily to serve as transcriber of oral history interviews done for the WASP project (including proofreading and audit-checking). Secondarily to serve as office assistant on a variety of tasks as needed.
Job Function:
- Transcribe audio recordings from oral history projects that may be collected by the institute
- Audit-check/proofread transcripts and research spellings of names and terms utilizing departmental and online resources
- Other duties as assigned:
- Assist with mail including journal distribution
- Post flyers around campus for upcoming events
Learning Outcomes:
- Develop speed and accuracy producing and processing transcripts
- Strengthen research skills through expanded knowledge of primary sources at the institute
- Gain knowledge on oral history methodology including how to develop a project
Hard Skills:
- Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Word and be able to conduct basic internet research as needed. Applicants should also be able to work independently to complete transcription projects. Excellent typing skills desired. Experience with digital audio media is a plus.
- Military service or military history experience preferred but not required.

- Self-motivated

- Listen and communicate effectively
- Resourceful
- Provide mid to advanced level administrative and operational support for day-to-day tasks
- May serve as initial contact for in-person guests or callers; provide excellent customer service
- May generate prepare and analyze reports or perform forecasting

- May assist with special projects and initiatives supporting departmental goals
- May assist with planning or coordination of events
- May assist with identifying areas of improvement and recommend solutions
- May assist with compliance processes
- May assist with maintaining internal databases and records
- May assist with developing processes and procedures
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylors mission
- Ability to comply with University policies
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
