Library Foundation of Los Angeles Public Programs

For over 20 years the Library Foundation of Los Angeles has presented free cultural programs to the public through its acclaimed ALOUD series. The series aims to enhance the library experience by bringing together creative minds from diverse backgrounds to share their ideas with a live audience. ALOUD offers Angelenos and other curious individuals the opportunity to connect with renowned writers public figures scientists artists filmmakers and other influential thinkers through conversations performances panel discussions screenings and other engaging experiences. Additionally ALOUD aims to create a community space where literature enthusiasts and other visionaries can come together and it provides a stage for rising literary talent.


About the Position

This position is responsible for producing a range of public programs for the Library Foundation of Los Angeles. Programs include approximately two dozen ALOUD programs per year Night at the Library and other public programs related to Library Foundation initiatives. Position performs a wide variety of production tasks ensuring program success from start to ideal candidate has knowledge of programming and arts/culture in Los Angeles and is skilled in producing both in-person and virtual programming. Candidate must be flexible able to work independently and should enjoy the challenges of working within a dynamic programs department.


Primary Responsibilities

Program Development & Production

Execute the Senior Directors vision for programs.

Oversee all phases of production for public programs including research planning and execution.

Serve as lead producer for Night at the Library managing all logistics partners and staff coordination.

Research curate and propose program ideas and participants that align with the Foundations mission.

Direct ALOUD and other public program initiatives including venue management ticketing pricing and financial forecasts.

Partnerships & Collaboration

Work with the Senior Director to develop long-term strategies and cultivate organizational partnerships.

Create and manage MOUs and contracts with partners participants venues vendors and contractors.

Build and maintain strong relationships with Los Angeles Public Library staff and other collaborators.

Marketing & Communications

Collaborate with Communications to develop and oversee implementation of marketing strategies for programs.

Support Development in creating programmatic opportunities for members and donors.

Oversee the creation of promotional and collateral materials for programs.

Operational Management & Evaluation

Develop and manage program budgets check requests and invoicing.

Implement systems to ensure efficiency and consistency in program delivery.

Develop and track performance measurements and evaluative strategies for programs.

Team Leadership & Special Projects

Supervise the work of support staff (e.g. Public Programs Coordinator interns).

Develop and execute live-streaming strategies; edit videos or podcast recordings as needed.

Produce public events for special projects or initiatives as assigned.

Assist with grant proposals when applicable.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements
  • 45 years of experience producing live or virtual events cultural programs or related public programming.
  • Bachelors degree preferred though relevant work experience and demonstrated skills are equally valued
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theater or event production technology.
  • Familiarity with literature contemporary writers and/or the Los Angeles arts and culture community.
  • Experience leading or coordinating staff volunteers or project teams.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Creative problem-solver who can adapt to changing circumstances and collaborate across teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on teamwork and relationship-building.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to work a hybrid work schedule (a minimum of two days in the office) the ability to work at least 30 evenings a year until 9-10:00 pm to support programs and the ability to work weekend programs as part of the Foundations public events calendar.
