Job Summary:

Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. The histologic techniques include the following: fixation processing embedding microtomy and staining of tissue for the pathologist evaluation and diagnosis.

In addition to bringing your whole self to the workplace each day qualified candidates will need the following:

Required Education and Experience:

• Opt 1: Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program

• Opt 2: HS and 60 college/university semester hrs with a combination of 12 hrs biology and chemistry (must include both) AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation embedding microtomy processing and staining.

• Opt 3: Associates degree with a combination of 12 hrs biology and chemistry (must include both) AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation embedding microtomy processing and staining.

• Opt 4: Will consider candidates with High School diploma and two or more years of experience in all areas of routine histology in lieu of academic credit/degree and/or certification

Preferred Education and Certifications:

• Associate degree and successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician program

AND/OR

• Histotechnician certification HT by American Society of Clinical Pathology

Required Minimum Knowledge Skills Abilities and Training:

• Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize duties.
