Description
The Healthcare Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean safe and sanitary environment throughout the facility in accordance with BHDDH standards and infection control policies. This position supports the health safety and dignity of patients residents and staff by ensuring all areas are properly cleaned disinfected and maintained to promote a therapeutic and hazard-free environment.
Schedule/Hours:
Full Time / 40 hours
Scheduled hours have some flexibility but would be one of the following;
- 5:00 am-1:30 pm
- 6:00 am-2:30 pm
- 7:00 am-3:30 pm
Tasks / Responsibilities:
- Clean disinfect and maintain patient/resident areas restrooms offices hallways and common spaces in accordance with BHDDH and Department of Health guidelines.
- Follow established infection control and safety procedures including the correct use of cleaning agents disinfectants and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Handle and dispose of general waste recyclables and biohazardous materials safely and in compliance with OSHA and facility standards.
- Maintain floors by sweeping mopping stripping waxing buffing and vacuuming as scheduled.
- Restock supplies such as soap paper towels hand sanitizer and toilet tissue.
- Report any safety hazards spills maintenance issues or damaged property promptly to supervisory staff.
- Assist with cleaning and preparing rooms for new admissions and discharges.
- Ensure cleaning carts equipment and storage areas are kept clean organized and properly secured at all times.
- Demonstrate professionalism respect and sensitivity when interacting with patients residents and staff.
- Participate in ongoing safety infection control and behavioral management training.
- Required to maintain healthy professional boundaries and interactions with folks in early recovery
Requirements
Environmental/Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed in a healthcare or residential setting with possible exposure to cleaning chemicals bodily fluids and occasionally unpredictable behaviors.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) and training are provided.
- May require weekend evening on-call or holiday shifts based on facility needs.
Preferred Experience/ Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Priorcustodial janitorial or environmental services experience preferably in a healthcare behavioral health or residential care environment.
- Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting procedures infection control and safe chemical handling.
- Ability to work respectfully and safely around individuals with behavioral health and/or developmental disabilities.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and perform physical tasks such as bending reaching and standing for extended periods.
- Must comply with all BHDDH health safety and confidentiality standards.
- Required to maintain healthy professional boundaries and interactions with folks in early recovery.
