Thompson Greenspon one of Northern Virginias largest local accounting firms is offering an internship during the upcoming tax season in our tax department. Located in Fairfax VA Thompson Greenspon has been serving clients since 1956 and is known for our expertise in the areas of construction professional services non-profits government contracting and employee benefit plans. Our primary services include audit and accounting taxation and business consulting.
The Tax Intern will work closely with our professional staff to gain hands-on experience in tax preparation and compliance for a variety of clients. This internship offers an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of public accounting client service and professional ethics in a fast-paced firm environment.
Internship Information:
- 20 hours per week
- January 2026 through April 2026
- Onsite in Fairfax Virginia office
- $26 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Preparation- Prepare 1040 tax returns with varying levels of complexity
- Team Collaboration - Work as an effective team member to complete project components and assigned tasks within the agreed upon time
- Data Entry - Input and update information into company databases and spreadsheets
- Document Assistance- Assist with scanning client tax documents and other administrative tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program (e.g. Accounting Finance or related fields)
- Completion of at least one tax or intermediate accounting course preferred
- Previous professional environment experience is a plus
Skills
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook)
- Ability to quickly learn new accounting software and tools
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
