How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:
The below is designed to give you an idea of the role you will play. There will be many more exciting and innovative things to do.
- Act as a liaison between the design and manufacturing teams ensuring that welded assemblies are optimised for manufacturability. Provide expert input into the manufacturability of welded assemblies.
- Participate in design reviews with a focus on manufacturing feasibility quality control tooling requirements and process optimisation.
- Prepare detailed documentation for manufacturing processes including standard operating procedures (SOPs) inspection criteria work instructions and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Develop advanced in-house welding capabilities to enable manufacture of complex launch vehicle assemblies. Lead welding trials and prototype development validating new techniques or materials for future production use.
- Lead tooling and fixturing design development required for weld operation.
- Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of manufacturing issues investigating and implementing corrective actions for non-conforming components or processes.
- Conduct base material and welding material selection.
- Lead the definition and control of production weld quality.
- Lead WPS development and maintenance in accordance with design/program requirements
- Lead the interpretation and application of welding codes and standards.
- Enforce site and personnel safety standards producing and updating WH&S documentation where applicable.
- Where required produce and publish fabricated GSE (Ground Support Equipment) designs.
Mandatory Qualifications Skills and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Manufacturing Mechanical Aerospace Engineering or closely related areas (Or equivalent experience).
- 3 years of experience working in a professional welding/fabrication setting.
- Strong understanding of arc welding techniques and NDT inspection methods.
- General welding cutting and fabrication equipment knowledge theory application maintenance and testing.
- Ability to read and generate engineering drawings including weld symbols.
- NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred.
- Self-motivated with strong multi-tasking organisational communication and documentation skills.
Desired QualificationsSkills and Experience:
- Experience in Friction Stir Welding technologies.
- Knowledge of welding standards AS1554.1 AWS D17.1 ASME B31.3 AS1554.1 AWS B2.1 ASME BPVC Section IX.
- Proficiency with common industry CAD packages e.g. Siemens NX (Preferred) SolidWorks OnShape Inventor etc.
- Internships or experience within a highly regulated manufacturing industry (Aerospace Medical etc.) will be highly regarded.
- Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians engineers and managers.
- Creative problem solver that can bring multiple disciplines together.
