Job Title: Liaison - Family Engagement Specialist (21st Century)

SUMMARY
The Family Engagement Specialist individual will work to increase and improve parent/family and community involvement in the district and with parental involvement programs in particular the 21st Century program. The primary responsibility is to provide the communication link between the district and the community/campuses on a full-time basis. The Family Engagement Specialist will work with parents and provide information in order to encourage communication with parents/families between the district and the community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
- Some college preferred
- At least five years of working with parents/families and community members.
CERTIFICATION LICENSES AND EXPERIENCE
As required by the State of Texas
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to use Google Workspace (Docs Slides Drive for document sharing and collaboration
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents schools community and district office personnel.
- Skills in speaking writing and reading a second language predominant in the community is desirable.
- Adherence to the code of ethics of the school district
- Proficient in Microsoft (Word Publisher PowerPoint) for creating flyers newsletters and notices
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Management
- Coordinate adult and family engagement activities in the community and at the 21st CENTURY sites
- Plan schedule coordinate activities involving families of 21st
- Prepare and plan for school-community relations on a daily basis.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and the parent/families of the school.
- Deliver and distribute information to the business/parent community.
- Attend school and community meetings as required.
- Make personal contact with parents to encourage family engagement.
- Provide information to 21st CENTURY families in order to improve home-school communication.
- Prepare 21st CENTURY student progress reports and meets with parents to discuss strategies to improve student achievement through the afterschool project.
- Work with the site coordinators/director to investigate issues and participate in conflict resolution between the site and the community.
- Collect data for reporting purposes
- Perform related duties as assigned by the dept.
Records and Reports
- Plan and maintains parent participation report counts for TEA reports
- Keep informed of and complies with state and district policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.
- Provide reports as necessary
- Maintain records of parent attendance in district and site functions.
Other
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
- Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work meetings and appointments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to communicate effectively is essential. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions procedure manuals write routine reports and correspondence; a proven ability to speak effectively before staff students and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add subtracts multiply and divides in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals; ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Proficient skills in typing word processing and file maintenance; effective organizational communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and related software to develop spreadsheets databases and word processing; ability to operate standard office equipment such as computer printer typewriter copier fax machine calculator and shredder; ability to develop effective working relationships with staff the school community and the general public; ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies; knowledge of basic accounting procedures and the ability to interpret policy procedures and data.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and sit. Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of the computer are required. Specific vision abilities required the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time. This position also requires meeting deadlines with severe time constraints interacting with the public and staff and enduring irregular or extended work hours. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee regularly works indoors/outdoors with frequent interruptions. The noise level is usually quiet. Some driving skills are necessary.
DURATION AND FUNDING OF POSITION ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:
