Job Summary

The Opportunity

McInnes Wilson Lawyers has a strong reputation in the legal industry as leaders in commercial insurance private client and plaintiff personal injury legal services. Having celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2025 we are looking to enhance and accelerate our organisations enterprise risk framework by appointing a Risk and Compliance Officer to help us maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and operational integrity.

As our Risk and Compliance Officer you will report directly to our Chief Operations Officer. You will act as a strategic liaison between operational teams and executive leadership and work closely with the Corporate Management Team (C-suite)

You will play a pivotal role in strengthening and streamlining AML/CTF compliance and supporting the framework and maintenance to ensure ongoing compliance with ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 standards.

You will coordinate and support risk and compliance initiatives and provide day-to-day operational and administrative assistance to ensure the highest standards of professional conduct and operational integrity.

This role is ideal for someone with strong stakeholder engagement skills who enjoys working collaboratively and supporting both strategic and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Risk and Compliance Assist in the ongoing development and implementation of the enterprise risk management framework with a particular focus on supporting AML/CTF compliance.
  • ISO Framework Support: Support ongoing compliance with ISO 27001 (Information Security) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management) including coordinating and assisting with internal audits.
  • Workplace Health & Safety (WHS): Collaborate with People and Culture and operational leaders to promote a safe and supportive work environment
  • Stakeholder Engagement Work closely with senior management legal and operational teams to embed compliance and risk initiatives across the organisation.
  • Reporting and monitoring Assist in preparing risk and compliance reports for committee and executive review and support regulatory reporting for AML/CTF compliance.
  • Operational excellence: Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support to the risk and compliance function including maintaining records preparing documentation and supporting reporting requirements.

Experience

We are seeking candidates with demonstrable experience in a risk compliance or governance support roles. You may come from a legal professional services or regulatory background and should be comfortable supporting AML/CTF obligations and ISO frameworks.

  • Analytical and risk-based thinking skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and support colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
