Job Summary

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence by accident by suicide suddenly when in apparent health when unattended by a physician in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Mortuary Operations will perform administrative duties including but not limited to:

- Reports to and assumes the duties of the Deputy Director of Mortuary Operations during their absence
- Assists in supervising all staff that report to the Deputy Director of Mortuary Operations
- Manages the Forensic Mortuary Technician Levels 2 and 3 and ensures that all Citywide Mortuary operations are being conducted in the most effective and professional manner
- Ensures that all Forensic Mortuary Technicians Levels 2 and 3 complete their tasks conduct regular performance evaluations of the Forensic Mortuary Technicians Levels 2 and 3 and provide them with feedback/take corrective measures when necessary
- Meet regularly with OCME Leadership Unit Heads staff and outside partners to ensure our operational units provide most effective service possible
- Complete administrative functions as needed including handling personnel matters attending meetings analyzing data and compiling reports and monitoring overall unit operations citywide
- Assists in all personnel matters including new staff orientation staff evaluations overtime tracking time and leave matters protocol violation tracking and Unit staff scheduling and assignments
- Performs administrative tasks which include coordinating proficiency training/refresher classes drafting revising and tracking protocol changes and updating the Unit Manuals
- Performs user testing of CMS and attend CMS meetings as requested
- Performs borough site visits field operations spot checks or other field functions as needed
- Other duties as assigned.
