Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Guide the implementation and coordination of Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) programmes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies guidelines and procedures.
- Provide input assess and refine existing safety procedures.
- Advise the line on most appropriate critical controls to implement for any given SHE risk and support continuous improvement of these over time.
- Provide input on appropriate SHE KPI thresholds/targets for the area of responsibility.
- Advise operations on the required skills development plan/program to enhance capabilities of employees & contractors to achieve excellence in SHE.
- Provide specialist SHE advise and coaching to site and contractor leadership related to current SHE Management systems to address trends identified. Advise on hazard and aspect identification workforce competency and capability assessments SHE management procedures inspections and reporting within and external to the mining industry.
- Implement leadership SHE interactions/interventions through on-site employee and contractor engagements and active participation in Visible Felt Leadership (VFL). Consult on high level risk assessment.
- Participate in relevant SHE audits inspections and observations and address issues as part of demonstrating strong SHE leadership.
- Partner with Contracting companies to ensure compliance to SHE requirements performance and behaviours.
- Engage with contractor leadership to determine underlying issue of bad SHE performance
- Facilitate comprehensive incident analysis in line with the protocols.
- Facilitate independent review of serious incidents and all accidents.
- Conduct trend analysis on SHE and report on these.
- Implement a purpose-driven high-performing culture that is aligned with the company values is inclusive and promotes diversity supports engagement and fosters continuous improvement to work processes.
This role is at a Band 6 level reporting to the SHE Manager.
Qualifications :
- Grade 12
- Degree in Safety Health and Environment and Risk Control Engineering or other relevant degree
- Safety management systems (9001)
- Safety Courses (SAMTRAC COMSOC etc) advantageous
- Post Graduate Degree advantageous
Experience and Knowledge
- 5- 7 years relevant Mining / Process / Engineering/ experience
- Project management fundamentals.
- Basic financial metrics cost and value management & budgeting tools.
- Risk management techniques.
- Value chain management within discipline and awareness of interdependencies across value chain steps
- Leadership tools for creating a culture of purposeled high performance and change
