We are seeking a Research Technician to join the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre within the School of Medical Sciences Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. This could be a great opportunity for recent graduates as well as experienced technicians.

In this hands-on role youll support high-quality cancer research projects by providing technical expertise across a range of laboratory applications. Youll work closely with researchers and students to develop and maintain cancer cell line models perform genome editing and cellular assays and ensure the smooth operation of laboratory facilities and equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Laboratory research support: Assist with the development and maintenance of cancer cell line models perform genome editing and carry out a range of cellular and molecular assays to generate high-quality experimental data.
  • Technical operations: Maintain equipment ensure all equipment is calibrated functional and compliant with safety standards.
  • Data and documentation: Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures results and equipment usage. Support data management and contribute to the preparation of research outputs.
  • Health safety and compliance: Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with containment protocols and hazardous substance regulations. Participate in lab inspections risk assessments and safety inductions.
  • Training and collaboration: Provide guidance and training to staff and students on laboratory techniques and equipment use. Contribute to a collaborative and supportive lab culture.
  • Procurement and inventory: Manage consumables and specialist procurement including hazardous materials. Liaise with suppliers and ensure stock levels meet research needs.
  • Continuous improvement: Stay up to date with emerging technologies and methods. Contribute to the development of new protocols and help implement process improvements.

This is a full-time (37.5h) fixed term (12 month) position.

The salary range for this role is $62400 $66800 depending on skills and experience.

Were looking for someone with strong technical skills attention to detail and a passion for research. Youll be confident working independently and collaboratively with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

You will have:

Essential

  • A BSc in Biomedical Sciences or a relevant discipline
  • 45 years of relevant practical experience inclusive of practical work experience and experience gained completing tertiary study
  • Excellent communication collaboration organisation and IT skills.
  • A commitment to health & safety compliance and equity values.

Preferred

  • Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing
  • Experience with cell respiration assays and mass spectrometry
  • Experience in cell culture and immunoblotting
  • Skilled in molecular biology
  • Skilled in cellular drug sensitivity and multiplate biochemical assays
