Job Summary

Director of Adoptions

Location/Schedule:Winston-Salem NC.Weekdays 8:30-5:00 with some weekend and after hours on call support. This role requires consistent on-campus presence to support staff and operations with occasional flexibility for remote work when appropriate. Regular travel is required across North Carolina including Western campus sites and periodic meetings in Raleigh and other statewide locations.

This position leads a dedicated team that supports children on their path to belonging guides adoptive families through every step of the process and ensures the highest standards of ethical and trauma-informed practice.

Hiring Range: $75000 - $85000 annually -Compensation is based on experience and qualifications. Candidates who meet only the minimum requirements can expect to start at the beginning of the range while those with additional and relevant experience and/or advanced skills may be considered for higher starting pay within the range.

Education/Experience/Licensure:
  • Meets requirements for a Qualified Professional which are:
    • Masters degree in a human services or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year supervised clinical experience working with children and families; or
    • Bachelors degree in a human services field and two years experience with the current population; or
    • Bachelors degree in a non-human services field and four years experience with the current population.
  • Experience supervising private and/or public adoption programs in North Carolina required.
  • 3 years supervisory experience within child welfare or mental health required (foster care residential or group care living program clinicians).
  • 5 years experience providing care management case management or care coordination in Adoption services.
  • Experience developing/implementing new programs with community collaboration strongly preferred.
  • TIPS/MAPP and Deciding Together certification is a plus.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Leadership & Oversight
    • Lead and oversee all adoption and permanency services ensuring alignment with agency mission and Sanctuary Model standards.
    • Supervise adoption supervisors and staff ensuring quality case management family licensing and ethical adoption practices.
    • Oversee intake assessment and placement processes for children and families.
    • Manage program performance compliance and outcomes ensuring adherence to DSS and licensing regulations.
    • Intervene in crises as needed providing guidance and direction to caseworkers.
    • Develop and monitor program budgets and grant allocations.
  • Strategic Planning & Performance
    • Collaborate with leadership to define strategic priorities and key performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Analyze data and recommend process improvements to achieve permanency goals.
    • Lead initiatives that expand adoption recruitment education and outreach across the state.
  • Staff Development & Supervision
    • Select coach and mentor staff to build a strong compassionate and accountable team.
    • Design and facilitate training on adoption competency trauma-informed practice and ethical service delivery.
    • Promote professional growth teamwork and Sanctuary principles across the program.
  • Community & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with DSS partner agencies and community organizations.
    • Represent Crossnore in professional forums task forces and community initiatives.
    • Serve as a program advocate to expand awareness and visibility of adoption services.
