Job Summary

Assists with the location identification and evaluation of all children and youth birth-21 years with emphasis on children 0-5 years of age who are not being served in a public school (kindergarten-age 21) or are at risk of developing special or unique needs in the tri-county area.

Essential Functions

awareness/training activities in early identification of disabling conditions for public and non-public schools day care center parent groups and community agency personnel and other referral services serving children with special or unique needs Duval Clay and Nassau Counties.

in outreach activities that meet the needs of children and youth their families and referral groups in their environment.

referrals of children who have or are at risk of developing special or unique needs birth 21 years of age from parents physicians and other sources to Child Find for possible placement in a public school or community agency program.

activities with district ESE staff community agencies and service coordination teams in screening evaluating and staffing children referred to Child Find in the tri-county area.

activities to ensure awareness of Child Find services available to student enrolled in non-public schools or agency programs.

screening activities in a culturally sensitive developmentally appropriate accessible coordinated and timely manner.

recommendations for formal systematic evaluations as appropriate and monitor status of cases assigned.

in the referral and screening process and initiates services required for the identification of exceptional students.

with the reporting and evaluation of project activities and components.

with the preparation of required reports and retrieval of information pertinent to the Child Find process.

other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university. Masters Degree preferred.

Experience: Five (5) years successful experience in exceptional student education.

Certifications & Licenses: Florida Department of Education certification in at least one area of Exceptional Student Education or Preschool Education Birth to 4 or have the Prekindergarten Disabilities Endorsement.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of exceptional student education
  • Strong oral written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong word processing spreadsheet and presentation software skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to coordinate awareness/training activities in early identification of disabling conditions
  • Ability to process referrals of children who have or are risk of developing special or unique needs
