PLEASE NOTE: The position will be filled at either the Student Services Professional SSP IA SSP IB or SSP II level dependent upon the applicants qualifications:

SSP IA: Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Registrar for Undergraduate Degree Services the Graduation Advisor Trainee supports students in completing their degree requirements and progressing toward graduation. The trainee will be trained to perform degree audits evaluate academic records and ensure compliance with CSUN and CSU graduation policies.

  • Advise students on progression toward degree including: degree requirements; substitution and waiver options; appeal processes and alternative course options.
  • Conduct proactive outreach and guide students who are not meeting graduation requirements.
  • Evaluate and confer baccalaureate degrees.
  • Review and encode course substitution or waiver recommendations from academic departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Advise a caseload of students on progression toward degree including: degree requirements; substitution and waiver options; appeal processes and alternative course options.
  • Conduct proactive outreach and provide guidance to students who are not meeting graduation requirements.
  • Evaluate and confer baccalaureate degrees.
  • Interpret and apply a wide variety of complex policies & procedures relating to evaluations and degree conferral.
  • Review and encode course substitution or waiver recommendations from academic departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Independently advise a caseload of students on progression toward degree including: degree requirements; substitution and waiver options; appeal processes and alternative course options.
  • Conduct proactive outreach and guide students who are not meeting graduation requirements.
  • Evaluate and confer baccalaureate degrees for caseload students.
  • Review and encode course substitution or waiver recommendations from academic departments for caseload students.
  • Collaborate with faculty and campus advising staff regarding course substitutions and waivers for students who do not yet meet degree requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • SSP IB:
    • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences public or business administration or a job-related field.
    • Equivalent to one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level.
    • A Masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for the required experience.
  • SSP II:
    • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a job-related field.
    • Equivalent to two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
    • A Masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
    • Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
