Job Summary

Founded in 1953 Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM). Hudson Valley is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and serves nearly 9000 students each year. The college is a recognized leader in career and transfer preparation workforce training initiatives distance learning and service to a diverse population of students. SUNY Reconnect Retention and Completion Counselor
HV-NTP

In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree required with a minimum of two years experience in post-secondary advising or related Student Services position strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with administrators faculty parents students and high school counselors required. Schedule may include working evening and weekend hours based on job needs. Spanish-speaking is preferred.
Nature and Scope of Duties: The Retention & Completion Counselor will report to the Associate Dean of SOAR or their designee:
1. Establishes and maintains supportive relationships with SUNY Reconnect students to ensure continued program eligibility and academic success.
2. Provides guidance to help students identify and navigate barriers to persistence.
3. Supports students in the graduation application process and tracks progress toward degree completion.
4. Assists students in reviewing eligibility for Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) and transfer credits.
5. Participates in the coordination and implementation of retention initiatives targeting non-traditional and stop-out student populations.
6. Provides proactive outreach and interventions for at-risk students to support continued enrollment and success.
7. Connects students with relevant on-campus and off-campus resources in collaboration with staff in the Student Success Center.
8. Supports the College Success Referral System ensuring timely and appropriate referrals for SUNY Reconnect students.
9. Maintains accurate student records and tracks engagement retention and completion metrics using institutional systems.
10. Plans and facilitates retention-focused workshops seminars and support sessions tailored to the needs of adult learners and returning students.
11. Provides coaching to non-traditional student cohorts to foster a sense of belonging and self-efficacy.
12. Remains current on trends and best practices in student retention completion and adult learner support.
13. Other duties assigned.
This position is contingent upon continued Grant Funding through the SUNY Reconnect Program.

This is a 12-month Full-Time position with a salary of $48000.
