Tekberry is seeking a motivated Waste and Emergency Response Technician to join our client a world-class university and research center. As a full-time* W2 employee you are eligible for health benefits.

Job Summary:

Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE) is seeking a Waste and Emergency Response Technician to support daily waste operations including waste collection disposal donation/reuse efforts and emergency response inventory management. This role requires strong problem-solving abilities professionalism and the ability to perform physical tasks in a fast-paced and compliance-driven environment.

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge or experience handling regulated waste streams such as e-waste universal waste or hazardous waste.

This is a very physical on-your-feet role that requires an individual who can follow directions work safely and troubleshoot with minimal supervision.

Core Duties:

Daily Waste Operations

  • Oversee waste collection disposal and donation/reuse across R&DE buildings.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and relevant state/federal regulations.
  • Physically handle waste items waste bins and occasionally e-waste universal waste and hazardous waste.
  • Identify proper waste streams and determine correct disposal or reuse pathways.

Service Coordination & Donations

  • Monitor and coordinate services with campus partners and waste vendors.
  • Resolve daily operational issues and report waste-related concerns.
  • Use technology tools to right-size waste services and identify service needs.
  • Coordinate reuse/donation efforts with local community groups.

Compliance & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with custodial teams building managers residents and campus departments.
  • Ensure all waste operations meet local state and federal regulations (including California waste laws).
  • Promote safe work practices and maintain compliance with safety procedures.

Emergency Response Inventory Support

  • Oversee campus partners emergency response inventory management activities.
  • Receive log repack and distribute emergency response items to storage locations.
  • Assist with developing and improving inventory tracking procedures.

Program Support

  • Provide operational support for MCP Sustainability and Utilities programs including:
    • Water reduction initiatives
    • Energy reduction initiatives
    • Green Cleaning Program

Professionalism & Problem Solving

  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence professionalism and strong judgment.
  • Maintain composure in time-sensitive or high-pressure situations.
  • Troubleshoot issues independently and escalate when appropriate.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently lift/carry/push/pull items up to 10 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift/carry/push/pull 11 50 lbs.
  • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull 40 lbs.
  • Frequent standing/walking; occasional stooping bending twisting or squatting.
  • Occasional light/fine manipulation and use of hand/foot controls.
  • Work includes indoor/outdoor environments and may involve sustained periods of standing.

Working Conditions:

  • Must wear appropriate PPE at all times.
  • May require occasional evening/weekend work to address urgent waste issues.
  • Work takes place in a variety of environments including:
    • Kitchens
    • Mechanical rooms
    • Waste management areas
    • Construction sites
    • Indoor/outdoor storage areas
  • Must maintain a valid non-commercial California drivers license for electric cart use.
  • Must comply with all applicable policies including safety and administrative guidelines.

Requirements:

  • 1 5 years of experience in facilities operations or utilities programs.
  • Ability to follow directions and execute tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to troubleshoot with minimal guidance.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety.
  • Valid CA drivers license (required).
  • Degree not required (preferred only).
