Temporary approximately 19 hours per week; This position is grant-funded. The continuation of this position beyond June 30 2026 is dependent upon WIOA Title II funding. Not eligible for layoff or recall.

SUMMARY
The instructor works in coordination with the Adult Education staff and is responsible for orienting assessing enrolling and instructing eligible adult English language learners utilizing the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) for speaking listening reading writing digital literacy and employability skills using up-to-date and sound pedagogical methods appropriate for adult English as a Second Language learners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Conducts individual student orientation collects required data and assesses prospective English Second Language (ESL) students
  • Develops student learning plan and assists student in setting documenting monitoring progress toward and revising meaningful educational goals with students
  • Understands and adheres to the State AE/ESL testing policies and program procedures
  • Works collaboratively with team members and community partners to develop program goals related to the ESL student population
  • Works both on-site at Kalispell campus and on location with business partners to provide services
  • Completes student documentation accurately and reports in a timely manner following state policy guidelines
  • Maintains accurate attendance records and inputs into program database weekly
  • Understands and implements the CCR (College and Career Readiness) standards including writing lesson plans and designing individual and group activities
  • Creates and facilitates online learning opportunities and ongoing program innovations
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of learners including direct instruction and integration of technology
  • Uses and maintains competency in various technologies and blends technology into all facets of student learning in a way that builds students digital literacy and employability skills
  • Uses technology to collect student feedback and homework collaborate with colleagues keep records track program effectiveness and be informed about the FVCC and local community
  • Provides a comfortable and motivating environment for adult learners
  • Participates in AE department meetings and state and local professional development activities
  • Employs various techniques to improve student retention and goal attainment in the classroom and through follow-up efforts
  • Remains current in practices trends and research related to areas of assignment
  • Attends related trainings workshops and professional development
  • Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students faculty and the College
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships
  • Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies
  • Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing in the community in college-related activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Reports to the Program Director Adult Education
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree in closely related field AND three years of related experience; AND
  • English Second Language Instructor certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters degree in related field AND one year of related experience
  • State Teaching License
  • Work experience teaching adult learners
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Skill in content and teaching competencies which engage the ESL student and focus on student learning
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC
  • Ability and willingness to serve as an ambassador for the College by interacting appropriately with the college community and community
  • Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships
  • Ability to follow and issue directions
  • Demonstrated communication technology presentation customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to intermittently work non-traditional schedules including evenings weekends etc.
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to respond in the event of an emergency
  • This is a Medium Duty job according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
