The City of Folsoms Parks and Recreation Department is currently recruiting for up to two (2)Recreation Specialist - Preschool Teachers (Toddler Program) to support the Community & Cultural Services Division.
Under the direction of the Youth Services Recreation Coordinator II the Preschool Teacher (Toddler Program) will serve as the on-site responsible party for the Fun Foundations: Parent & MeToddler Program. This role oversees curriculum planning and delivery ensures a safe and nurturing learning environment and serves as a liaison with parents staff and visitors. The teacher is directly responsible for creating a well-organized positive and fun classroom experience for toddlers and their caregivers.
Schedule- Program: Fridays 9:15a.m. - 10:15 a.m. (teacher on site approximately 8:45a.m. - 10:45 a.m.)
- Season: January - May 2026; program pauses for summer and resumes in September
- Pre-launch prep: Approximately 10 hours/week for 3 weeks in November - December 2025 for curriculum build-out supply prep and set-up
- Additional hours may be assigned for trainings meetings and special activities
- Duration: position is ongoing as long as needed and supported by the budget.

NOTE: Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Conceptualize plan and implement a developmentally appropriate toddler/parent curriculum (music/movement sensory social play simple routines).
- Budget organize shop for and maintain inventory of all program supplies.
- Prepare classroom/space before class and ensure thorough clean-up after class; maintain a clean neat and safe environment.
- Oversee and enforce program rules and safety expectations in coordination with City policies.
- Serve as primary point of contact for parents/caregivers; support positive communication and conflict resolution.
- Actively engage with toddlers and caregivers during all activities; model positive guidance and play facilitation.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers City staff and the public using principles of outstanding customer service.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with staff and parents regarding program activities and updates.
- Arrange substitute coverage as needed and coordinate scheduling details with the Recreation Coordinator II.
- Complete rosters activity plans and simple reports as needed.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Employment Standards
Knowledge of:
- Practices and methods of public relations and customer service; effective interpersonal communication.
- Basic methodology of organizing groups programs and services in a recreational/early childhood setting.
- Administrative practices including communication decision-making simple budget tracking and public information.
- Modern office methods procedures and common computer applications (email docs/sheets).
- Basic report/narrative writing techniques.
Ability to:
- Demonstrate enthusiasm positive energy self-motivation and maturity.
- Communicate clearly and professionally both orally and in writing.
- Organize prioritize and pace duties and tasks to meet program timelines.
- Follow oral and written directions; exercise sound judgment.
- Establish and maintain effective cooperative working relationships with coworkers and the public.
- Lift set up and put away materials and equipment for toddler activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required; some college preferred.
- Early Childhood Education/Child Development coursework (12 units) preferred; related to Recreation Art Music or Physical Education coursework serving early childhood may be considered.
Experience:
- Prior experience working with toddlers (approx. 18 - 36 months) and families in a preschool recreation or similar setting is strongly preferred.
License Certificate Registration Requirements:
Current CPR/First Aid certification
Physical Requirements:
Frequent sitting standing walking kneeling bending stooping and crouching. Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds. Perform repetitive hand arm and body movement on a continuous basis. Frequent public and coworker contact occasional working alone.
