Key job responsibilities
As Senior Mechanical Engineer on the One MHS team you will develop innovative and complex hardware systems for our emerging material handling solutions and improve existing hardware to optimize performance and enhance customer experience. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience designing and troubleshooting custom electro-mechanical systems from the ground up. They enjoy analytical problem solving and possess practical knowledge of mechanical design fabrication assembly and rapid prototyping. They thrive in an inter-disciplinary environment and have led the development of complex electro-mechanical systems.
- Work with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification design prototyping validation and testing

- Owner of the detailed design and performance of electro-mechanical systems

- Work with the Operations Manufacturing Supply Chain and Quality organizations as well as vendors to ensure smooth product launch

- Write functional specifications design verification plans and functional test procedures

- Exhibit role model behaviors of mechanical engineering best practices thorough and predictive engineering analysis and cradle to grave ownership

About the team
Amazon installs a significant quantity of new buildings every year. The historical model has been to allow each integrator to use their own equipment controls subsystems and methodologies. While that has allowed Amazon to be successful to this point the variability between buildings has proven difficult to support and scale. One MHS charge is to build partnerships to focus on consistency and scalability across our network of the future. We will be partnering with key suppliers to help them scale up their manufacturing capabilities to keep up with our needs as well as refining their designs to drive innovation and operational uptime and better meet the specific needs of Amazons operational environment.


- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design and advanced assemblies
- Experience building prototypes to advance design thinking and the final product experience
- Experience collaborating and influencing multiple teams across multiple organizations
- Experience writing technical documents project plans and progress reports to leadership and to stakeholders
- Experience working in an Agile environment
- Experience in hardware design and validation of components subsystems and systems
- Experience leading the mechanical detailed design of electro-mechanical systems
- Thorough understanding and use of principals theories and concepts in mechanical engineering and ability to apply them to product design
- Experience with full lifecycle development

- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Masters degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
- Experience launching a product at scale
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with Electrical and Controls engineers
- Proficiency documenting designs in accordance with ANSI Y-14.5
- Experience designing and debugging tooled (sheetmetal cast injection molded etc) components
- Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management PLM software and ECOs
- Proficiency with SolidWorks Simulation or Ansys Finite Element Analysis tools

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
