Are you passionate about helping individuals navigate their recovery journey and build a healthier future AMHC is seeking a dedicated and compassionate full-time Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor in Machias to provide assessment counseling and supportive services for individuals living with substance use disorders.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a direct impact on the lives of individuals and families while working within a strong integrated care team that includes mental health recovery and community-based supports.
What Youll Do:
- Provide comprehensive substance use services including assessments individual group and family counseling consultation and community education.
- Offer integrated behavioral health support by addressing both mental health and substance use needs.
- Deliver Co-Occurring services to individuals with substance use and mental health diagnoses or developmental disabilities.
- Maintain active engagement with clients and referral sources to support individualized treatment goals.
- Support No Wrong Door philosophy by assisting clients and families with referrals and resource access.
- Help clients navigate AMHCs full continuum of care including MAT Residential Peer Recovery and Court-related services.
- Provide transportation to clients when necessary through collaboration with local bus services.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with licensing and billing requirements.
- Participate in regular team meetings and interdisciplinary case reviews.
What You Bring:
- Minimum of a CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) LADC or LCPC/LICSW with SUD experience preferred
- Knowledge and experience in working with individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders
- Strong communication and clinical documentation skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Familiarity with community resources and an interest in engaging with local support systems
- Commitment to person-centered trauma-informed and culturally respectful care
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation

Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent plus 1 to 2 years of relevant experience is required. A copy of a high school diploma is required at the time of hire.
This position minimally requires a license as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) active in the State of Maine at the time of hire.
Holders of this position must complete a physical at the time of hire and at least once every three years.
