Parks and Roads Services is responsible for services and assets that support mobility and activity in our city. The branch ensures that streets and roads infrastructure assets parks trees and boulevards remain accessible attractive and safe. Work includes repairs and maintenance seasonal clean ups signals and street lights parking services and traffic safety just to name a few.

The General Supervisor Parks and Open Space Specialized Services reporting to the Director Parks and Urban Forestry leads several key areas within Edmontons green spaces and will oversee more than 600 unionized staff all dedicated to delivering essential services and programs to the people of Edmonton. The Parks and Open Space Operations units responsibilities are extensive encompassing the meticulous management of turf mowing and trimming across 4000 hectares the care of over 20000 ornamental shrub beds effective control of weeds and undesirable vegetation and providing expert scientific support and direct intervention for pest management including mosquitoes gophers and coyotes. Your leadership will be key in safeguarding Edmontons infrastructure and enhancing its overall livability.

This influential position within the leadership team offers the chance to both define strategic direction and oversee daily operations. You will be at the forefront of developing the strategy priorities and overall direction for your section and unit while simultaneously implementing the vital human social technical and operational systems that bring our work to life. This role uniquely blends high-level strategic planning with direct operational oversight ensuring the continued flourishing of our citys green infrastructure.

What will you do

  • Engage and support staff in developing action plans to enhance communication solve problems creatively promote integration and support excellence
  • Ensure staff are empowered have the competencies and are well equipped to perform their roles
  • Strategically identify and allocate necessary resources including staffing and budget for the successful execution of projects and programs
  • Ensure the prudent and effective use of financial and human resources determine and review annual budget requirements and proactively monitor performance and financial reporting
  • Support Program Managers in meeting Service Level Agreement targets
  • Ensure strict adherence to all Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) ENVISO environmental management system procurement guidelines project program management methodologies and all other relevant City policies and procedures throughout the area
  • Apply the GBA process to the development and review of policies practices and frameworks
  • Knowledge or training and/or education in Management Environmental Science Landscape Architecture Planning Engineering or other related disciplines
  • Experience in a leadership role within a large complex unionized organization
  • Knowledge in landscape operations management with experience overseeing service delivery
  • Combinations of education and experience will be considered

Assets:

  • Experience working with large seasonal operations and staff change over
  • Additional certification or coursework/training in financial management public works administration change management or other leadership training

Conditions of Employment and Work Environment:

  • 1 permanent full-time position.
  • Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week Monday - Friday. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and a parks operational yard
  • Salary: (Annually) $120328.53 - $150408.62
  • Hire is dependent on Criminal Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
