Under direct supervision the Logistics Technician performs day-to-day tasks that provide logistical support for the fire department. This position assists with the receipt distribution tracking and maintenance of equipment and materials while ensuring compliance with established safety and purchasing procedures. The Technician is expected to provide courteous timely and effective internal customer service to fire department personnel.
Essential Duties & Required Qualifications
- Performs the receipt storage delivery and distribution of equipment materials and supplies following established procedures.
- Assists with purchasing by obtaining quotes processing purchase requests and tracking deliveries.
- Prepares equipment and PPE for inspection testing or calibration and maintains related records.
- Delivers and retrieves equipment for maintenance or repair; performs minor upkeep on small equipment (cleaning fueling and readiness checks).
- Tracks service status updates logs and prepares inventory usage reports for review by the Logistics Officer.
- Submits facility maintenance requests and assists with scheduling and follow-up under direction of the Logistics Officer.
- Performs inventory counts updates inventory databases and distributes supplies/equipment as directed.
- Completes required training and applies proper handling procedures for equipment PPE and supplies.
- Provides logistical support during emergency incidents training exercises and special events including 24/7 response when called.
- Accurately updates electronic and paper records for uniforms equipment and supplies; assists with documentation to meet NFPA ISO and accreditation requirements.
- Operates assigned tools vehicles and warehouse equipment safely and reports issues promptly.
- Follows established safety procedures and reports unsafe conditions or damaged equipment to supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.
- Six months to a year of experience in logistics public safety or related experience.
Certificates Licenses Registrations- Valid State of Texas Class C drivers license or equivalent from any state.
- NFPA 1850 previously known as NFPA 1851 Care and Maintenance of Protective Ensembles or must obtain within one year of hire which would be provided by the City.
- Occupational Health Dynamics (OHD) Fit Testing Certification or must obtain within one year of hire which would be provided by the City.
- Forklift certification (OSHA) or must obtain within one year of hire which would be provided by the City.
Preferred Education and Certifications- Associates degree from a two-year college or technical school.
- One to two years of logistics in public safety or related experience.
- Experience in logistics within a municipal or emergency services environment.
- Familiarity with fire service or EMS operations and equipment.
- Operative IQ and Microsoft 365 software experience.
- Texas Class B Commercial Drivers License
- Current NFPA 1850 (previously 1851).
- OHD Fit Testing Certification.
