26-27 High School Biology Teacher

KIPP Miami seeks an experienced High School Biology Teacher to design and deliver an advanced collegepreparatory Biology program. The ideal candidate has a proven record teaching high school science and can lead courses such as Biology Honors AP Biology AICE Biology IB Biology and/or Dual Enrollment Biology in alignment with MiamiDades advanced academic offerings. Coursework will emphasize biotechnology and health sciences pathways integrating career and technical education (CTE) strands (e.g. genetics microbiology biomedical research anatomy & physiology biotechnology laboratory practices and health sciences). Students will engage in authentic problembased learning tied to South Floridas research hospitals biotech industry and public health sectors.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

• Plan and teach a rigorous standardsaligned Biology sequence (including Honors AP/AICE/IB and/or Dual Enrollment sections as assigned) that meets Floridas NGSSS/Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) standards and MiamiDade advanced programs expectations.
• Backmap unit plans from AP/AICE/IB frameworks and local Dual Enrollment syllabi; vertically align with Chemistry Anatomy & Physiology and Environmental Science.
• Integrate inquirydriven labs (molecular biology genetics microbiology ecology physiology) biotechnology tools dissections and clinical case studies.
• Use problembased learning Socratic seminars and lab safety best practices; ensure all labs meet state and district safety standards.

Assessment & Data

• Design common assessments and performance tasks; prepare students for AP/AICE/IB external assessments and industry certifications; regularly analyze data to inform instruction and interventions.

Advanced Programs & Pathways

• Coordinate with the Advanced Academic Programs lead to align course pathways (AP AICE IB Dual Enrollment) and to expand access and success for all students.
• Build partnerships with local universities environmental organizations and industry for guest speakers mentorships service learning and internships.

CTE Integration

• Embed CTE competencies and industryrecognized certifications (e.g. OSHA10 GIS fundamentals horticulture/agriscience renewable energy fundamentals) in course projects.
• Complete required CTE coursework and state examinations within the prescribed timeline (see Qualifications) and maintain all related credentials.

Culture & Family Partnership

• Model and uphold KIPP Miamis Heartbeat Principles in all interactions; create an inclusive purposeful classroom culture with high expectations and joy.
• Partner with families through transparent progress reporting studentled conferences and proactive communication.

Professionalism

• Collaborate with colleagues in professional learning communities content teams and advanced programs alignment.
• Contribute to a schoolwide culture of continuous improvement through coaching cycles peer feedback and shared best practices.

Qualifications :

Required Education & Experience

• Bachelors degree is required
  • A degree in Biology Molecular Biology Biotechnology Genetics Health Sciences or related field is preferred.
• At least two (2) years of fulltime high school teaching experience in science (required).
• Valid Florida Educator Certificate (or eligibility) in Biology (612). (Candidates pursuing reciprocity or temporary certification must be eligible under Florida statutes.)
• Ability to meet MiamiDade professional standards for high school science teachers including demonstrated content knowledge classroom management and student learning results.
• Commitment to complete required CTE coursework and pass state CTE examinations relevant to assigned pathways within the first 24 months of employment (tuition/fees may be eligible for reimbursement per KIPP Miami policy).
• Strong dataliteracy; proficiency with instructional technology (Google Workspace LMS assessment platforms).
• Satisfactory background check and fingerprint clearance.
• Strong proficiency with instructional technology and datadriven decisionmaking.

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at computer or working at desk and significant fine finger dexterity.
• Often required to stand and sit.   
• Walk frequently and climb stairs.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Proficiency in Spanish and/or Creole preferred

• Degree and/or substantive career experience in Biology Biotechnology or a related STEM/health field (e.g. biomedical research medicine laboratory sciences bioinformatics).
• Prior success teaching AP Biology AICE Biology IB Biology or Dual Enrollment science.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $55550-$62250 commensurate with experience.
