As an integral member of the Laboratory team the
Duties
- Receiving sorting and processing specimens following established procedures and guidelines
- Preparing handling and dispensing reagents medias and solutions as required
- Preparing specimens referred out to other testing sites and laboratory areas
- Maintaining responsibility for inventory and supply control
- Performing other duties related to specimen management
- Observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures
- Adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality
- Perform cross-functional duties as assigned or requested
- Perform other duties related to and consistent with the job classification as required
Qualifications :
- Completion of Grade 12 or recognized equivalent
- Graduate of a certified post-secondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program or recognized equivalent
- MLPAO (Medical Laboratory Professionals Association of Ontario) or CSMLS certification preferred
- Minimum one (1) year related work experience in a laboratory setting and specimen management required
- Minimum one (1) year recent work experience in flow cytometry required
- Demonstrates ability to develop skill and knowledge in all areas of the laboratory (on-the-job experience)
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of laboratory procedures equipment and special techniques in assigned areas
- Excellent problem recognition and problem solving skills
- Effective organizational time management skills and prioritization skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of appropriate behaviour required working successfully in a diverse work group
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Procedures in a laboratory
- Computer literacy
- Ability to work effectively as a team member
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions
- Knowledge of applicable Hospital and departmental policies procedures guidelines protocols and practices.
- Demonstrates commitment to continuing education
