About the opportunity

The Manningham Mens Shed is a well-established and well-equipped Mens Shed that offers a wide range of activities. The Shed gives all men the opportunity to socialise get involved and to learn and pass on skills. This positions primary purpose is to coordinate the day to day running of the Mens Shed workshops with a focus on actively engaging participants in workshop activities and creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. The position is also responsible for ensuring participant safety and that equipment is maintained and used correctly and that the Mens Shed program complies with quality standards and funding requirements.

This is a Permanent Part time role 0.8 EFT 30 hrs from Monday to Thursday based in Doncaster.

What you will be doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage programs and activities that respond to the needs of the local community
  • Evaluate programs and undertake community consultation to ensure that programs and activities are relevant and support community development principles and best practice
  • Supervise and support program facilitator to ensure the smooth and successful running of The Shed
  • Recruit train and supervise volunteers to assist with the successful running of The Shed and in line with AccessHC volunteer policy and procedures
  • Support Shed participants to ensure they are able to participate to the fullest of their ability in Shed activities
  • Provide regular reports on the activities to the Senior Manager Community
  • Work with Senior Manager Community to manage programs within budget
  • Develop and monitor goal-directed activities with the participants and their carers that promotes a sense of achievement and belonging
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes the Mens Shed and AccessHC values and vision
  • Support and work with team members volunteers and participants to ensure that the Shed operates within the guidelines of the Mens Shed program and that it complies with relevant legislation
  • Collaborate and work with team members volunteers and participants to ensure a safe environment including ensuring that equipment is used correctly
  • Transport participants when required using 11-seater bus

What you will bring

Key Selection Criteria

  • Certificate 111 in Aged Care/ Disability or another relevant field
  • Experience working with older people and/or people with disabilities
  • Excellent handyman or tradesperson skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to people from a diverse range of social and cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Compliance Requirements:

  • National Police Check Working with Children Check NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Level 2 First Aid
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Evidence of the right to work in Australia and a valid Drivers Licence.
