Overall Position Summary and Objectives
This position is located in the Section on Biomedical Optics (SBO) NICHD. The SBOs staff collaborate with scientists throughout the Intramural Program of NIH on complex research projects of high importance and conduct independent development of technologies valuable to the long-term needs of the NIH IRP. The SBO focuses on development and translation of wearable optical imaging devices to monitor peripheral hemodynamics in bedside settings. The SBO designs characterizes and implements these devices for a multitude of clinical studies spanning a variety of vascular diseases.

Plans executes and arranges laboratory experiments new techniques and procedures; and performs laboratory techniques relating to scientific research.
- Develop a standard operating procedure to fabricate optical calibration standards 1
- Create a series of optical calibration standards to be used across multiple optical imaging devices
- Perform characterization measurements on devices and compare performance to validated imaging systems
- Conduct clinical study measurements with optical imaging devices in conjunction with lab staff 2
- Creating a training plan to assist new users in equipment use and assist users in device fabrication 5
Operates laboratory machines and instruments; and prepares specimens and equipment for use.
- Develop maintain and update online protocols for equipment operation
- Enhance laboratory organization and ensure compliance with safety regulations
Performs sample management and storage.
- Develop and refine clinical measurement protocols based on collaborator requirements
Analyzes documents and reports on all procedures performed.
- Document notes acquired during clinical study measurements
- Maintain electronic laboratory notebook to document all work performed using Lab Archives 4
- Develop automated pipelines to perform standardized data analysis on optical imaging data 3
Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies.
