Job Summary

Job Description:

  • To lead the medical oncology team consisting of cancer GPs junior physicians oncology nurses general nurses and the ward team (phlebotomists DGAs ward boys etc.).
  • To leads the medical oncology team in the diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment of patients with cancer.
  • To lead the medical oncology team in initial examination of history and clinical examination.
  • Supervises the initial history and physical and subsequent interim histories and physicals. Conducts focused physicals and patient meetings as needed for complex cases. Meets at least briefly with all patients for at the time of response assessment
  • To supervise the writing of the admission note and diagnostic plan daily progress notes.
  • To participate in relevant tumour board meetings.
  • To design chemotherapy treatment plans for cancer patients.
  • To delegate or supervises Cancer GPs and other staff in performing investigation/invasive and therapeutic procedures such as thoracentesis paracenteses ascites spinal taps intrathecal chemotherapy and intra cavitary chemotherapy as needed
  • To write chemotherapy orders and/or consign chemotherapy orders written by junior staff.
  • To ensure conformity of the standards for Patients Right and Education that includes informing/counselling the patient or patient family about the plan of care day to day progress if needed as a team along with consultation from other services and interacts with other physicians members of the cancer team as needed.
  • To oversee the evaluation of new referrals including history and physical.
  • To oversee follow-up patients on routine chemotherapy or off chemotherapy and discharges them when appropriate.
  • To supervise the junior staff in managing the patients in the regular clinics as well as drop-ins or unscheduled patients.
  • To ensure Palliative Care from the very beginning to the bereavement through the Palliative Team.
  • To participate in running multidisciplinary clinics with other specialties when required.
  • To perform chart review of laboratory results and imaging studies and takes appropriate action as indicated.
  • To participate in weekly educational activities of the team.
  • To do bedside teaching for residents and fellows.
  • To participate in multidisciplinary conferences such as the Breast Sarcoma and Lymphoma Conferences.
  • To participate in organizing symposia and workshops related to his/her specialty as needed.
  • To write and conduct prospective and retrospective clinical trials and other relevant research.
  • To write manuscripts and abstracts; submits them for publication in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences.
  • To participate in departmental and hospital committees in any capacity as determined by the director of oncology centre or hospital administration.
  • To follow all hospital-related policies and procedures.

  • To be available on call during night
  • To perform any other duties as assigned.
