Remote Electrical Estimator (Remote Solar & Renewable Energy)
The client is an Australian-based company specialising in the design supply and installation of solar and renewable energy systems for both residential and commercial clients. With a focus on sustainability efficiency and innovation the company is driven to provide smarter cleaner and more affordable energy solutions across Australia and New Zealand. As the company continues to expand we are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Estimator to join our growing remote team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in solar project estimating a solid understanding of Australian/New Zealand electrical standards and strong skills in
OpenSolar and related estimating tools.
The Electrical Estimator will play a key role in supporting the tendering and design functions of the business. This position requires someone with hands-on experience in electrical estimation for solar projects including preparing accurate BOQs cost breakdowns and technical proposals for clients. The role also includes designing solar system layouts reviewing project documentation and working closely
with the Director and project teams to deliver high-quality estimates that align with client requirements and company goals.
Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for solar and electrical projects including residential and commercial installations.
Analyse tender documents technical drawings and specifications to determine material labour and time requirements.
Develop comprehensive BOQs (Bills of Quantities) and cost summaries for client proposals and internal review.
Use OpenSolar to design and generate proposal layouts including energy yield calculations and equipment configurations.
Prepare tender documentation and assist in bid submissions and proposal presentations.
Ensure all designs and estimates comply with AS/NZS standards and other relevant
regulations.
Collaborate with suppliers subcontractors and internal stakeholders to gather pricing validate assumptions and finalise quotes.
Support process improvements within the estimating and tender workflow to enhance
accuracy and efficiency.
Assist the management team in identifying potential cost savings and technical alternatives during tender evaluations.
Maintain and update an organised database of estimates supplier pricing and project history for reference and bench marking.
Minimum of 3-5 years experience as an Electrical Estimator within the solar renewable energy or electrical contracting sectors.
Strong experience using OpenSolar for design and proposal generation (mandatory).
Proficiency in Excel for cost estimation tender analysis and report preparation.
Familiarity with SimPRO or other estimating/project management tools is an advantage.
Thorough understanding of Australian and New Zealand electrical codes and standards.
Demonstrated ability to prepare competitive accurate and timely tenders.
Excellent communication skills able to clearly present cost breakdowns and design
rationale to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and accuracy under pressure.
Must be adaptable flexible and dependable in doing tasks that might not be within their normal scope of work
Self-motivated disciplined and able to manage tasks independently in a remote environment.
