DYS is the juvenile corrections system for the state of Ohio. DYS is statutorily mandated to confine felony offenders ages 10-21 who have been adjudicated and committed by one of Ohios 88 county juvenile courts. During their stay with DYS youth are engaged in programming that is designed to address their criminological and behavioral needs. DYS reaches thousands of youth in facilities and those on parole.

Completion of associate core coursework in criminal justice criminology political science or public administration; 7 yrs. additional investigation &/or supervision of adult felons or youth offenders which included interviewing participation in criminal court or parole board/release authority release &/or violation proceedings; or 3 yrs. additional administrative or court hearings that includes presenting witnesses and evidence; submitting and/or ruling on motions objections briefs and arguments taking testimony researching and interpreting applicable law (e.g. prosecutor defense counsel magistrate administrative law judge hearing officer arbitrator); valid drivers license.

Travel is required.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct release reviews for youth; review documents and databases to verify sentence information and complete youth release expectations; verify sentence information/documentation; prepare information for progress reviews by reading and analyzing previous reviews face sheets journal entries and other information needed to complete reviews; review and analyze information in Juvenile Justice Case Management System (JJCMS) to identify newly scheduled youth that need to be seen
  • Meet with youth regarding progress; maintain security of files and operate vehicle to travel to and from hearings
