Job Summary: | The College of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor (12 Month). The successful candidate will: - Teach and supervise students in areas of specialization across levels (BS MS DNP).
- Implement the Colleges philosophy curriculum program outcomes and course objectives through expert teaching.
- Assume responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching assignments.
- Use innovative active learning strategies in the classroom and beyond.
- Plan clinical and simulation experiences for and provides direct supervision and evaluation of students delivering nursing care as needed.
- Advise students in area of doctoral work; mentors students in evidence-based research and scholarship.
- Evaluate assess and provide documented feedback on students performance; be available for remediation of students as required or needed.
- Provide expertise in subject matter; facilitate course discussions ensuring active participation among learners; respond to learner inquiries within 24-48 hours; assess learner assignments and engagement; provide appropriate feedback coaching and reinforcement of effective critical thinking; report at risk learners to appropriate school staff; encourage learner participation in course-end evaluation forms; provide innovative input designed to make teaching practices more effective; adhere to quality standards and defines quality at course level in line with departmental and university norms.
- Orient and maintain current knowledge related to agency/clinical policies and procedures.
- Grade homework quizzes tests lab assignments clinical paperwork and other written work in a timely manner.
- Report to the Executive Vice Dean and Associate Deans (based on program).
- Direct research of other teachers or graduate students working for advanced academic degrees.
- Conduct research and publishes findings in professional journals.

Required Qualifications: | - Doctoral Degree (PhD EdD DNP).
- 3 years of teaching experience in academia.
- 5 years of clinical practice experience in area of specialization.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Evidence of current scholarship.
- Evidence of national prominence in nursing.
- Experience in curriculum development.
- Or a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience education and training to the above.

Preferred Qualifications: | - New York State APRN or RN License.
- Evidence of independent and collaborative research and extramural funding.
- Leadership/management experience in academia professional and community organizations.
- Online teaching experience (or strong desire to develop competency) and ability to relate to learners in an online setting.
