Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if youre near one) at home or a bit of both its up to you. 

What youd be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think thats all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things youll be working on when you start but this will likely evolve.

At the moment this role is focused on:

• Designing and delivering scalable systems that are simple to use easy to maintain and built to last.
• Collaborating across a dozen Infrastructure teams to create a seamless end-to-end platform experience for every Canvanaut.
• Driving clarity in ambiguous situations and taking a hypothesis-driven approach to testing out new ideas.
• Partnering with Product Managers Technical Program Managers and tech leads to deeply understand challenges and drive strategic initiatives forward.
• Mentoring engineers while fostering a culture of simplicity reliability and continuous innovation.

Youre probably a match if

• You have 6 years of advanced coding proficiency in Python/Golang/Java and strong Object Oriented Programming fundamentals
• You have strong Computer Engineering / Science knowledge around fundamentals and first principles relating to concurrency multithreading data structures architecture and various design patterns
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred or GCP).
• You have experience delivering improvements in developer tooling and environments at scale
• Youre passionate about eliminating friction and cognitive load for fellow engineers
• You write clean maintainable code and are comfortable working across the stack
• Youve got great collaboration skills and love working cross-functionally with engineers PMs and technical leaders
• You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are excited by Canvas hypergrowth
• You have hands-on experience using AI in coding/programming to drive greater impact

About the Role

Were looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Infrastructure this role youll design and build scalable internal services developer tools and infrastructure systems that enable engineers across Canva to ship faster operate reliably and scale globally.

Youll work closely with other infrastructure and product teams to improve architecture patterns elevate reliability and streamline the developer experience. Whether its simplifying cloud provisioning enhancing observability or building reusable backend platforms your work will directly shape how thousands of engineers design deploy and run Canva for millions of users around the world.
