The Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education is currently seeking a full time Harvey Development Technician to work in Miami FL. The Simulation Technologist assists in the operation and management of training systems to facilitate on- and off-site learner instruction implementation of simulation-based curricula skills testing and quality improvement programs. The incumbent maintains simulation and educational equipment for all assigned educational areas.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supports the daily operations of simulation training areas including setting up and storing equipment furniture and other relevant items.

  • Maintains medical patient simulators and other training equipment including hardware software operational checks security and troubleshoot.

  • Operates and troubleshoots audiovisual equipment in classrooms and auditoriums.

  • Performs pre-simulation activities including programming patient scenarios.

  • Provides pre-briefing to learners and technical support during scenarios.

  • Performs post-simulation activities such as restoring training areas to pre-scenario conditions.

  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to develop scenarios and standardize training procedures.

  • Maintains simulation documentation resources and inventory.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience
No previous experience required

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

The Michael S. Gordon Center for Simulation and Innovation in Medical Education (Gordon Center) is a Center of Excellence at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The Gordon Centers mission is to develop implement disseminate and evaluate leading-edge educational programs through advanced technology and simulation systems.

Every year the Gordon Center trains more than 20000 learners including paramedics firefighters nurses physicians physician assistants (PAs) and students from medical nursing and PA programs. Harvey the Cardiopulmonary Patient Simulator was developed by the Gordon Center and continues to evolve with emerging technologies. Harvey is also manufactured and distributed by the Gordon Center. As the Gordon Center expands its portfolio of simulation systems based on Harvey the Harvey Simulator Technician will assist the Director of the Gordon Center with the daily research development and operation of hardware and software components for Harvey and other teaching simulators.

Responsibilities:

I. Harvey The Cardiopulmonary Patient Simulator & UMedic Multimedia System (80%) A. Assembly and Fabrication

1. Assist in producing and finishing 3D-printed components.

2. Inspect incoming production parts for quality control.

3. Assist with fabricating and assembling cables and interconnectors.

4. Assist with assembling and testing all mechanical movement modules.

5. Assist with assembling electrical components.

6. Adjust and calibrate electrical and mechanical components responsible for sounds and movements.

7. Make final adjustments and document the quality control process prior to shipment.

8. Assist in final simulator preparation including supporting educational software for shipping and crating.

B. Technical Support

1. Assist in providing technical support to Harvey user institutions via email and video calls.

2. Assist with the installation of Harvey systems at user sites and train technical personnel on system operation and management.

II. Gordon Center Educational Program Support (20%)

A. Maintain simulation equipment in proper working condition in learning environments.

B. Assist with inventory management of simulation systems supporting equipment and supplies both onsite and at off-campus locations.

Supervision Received: Director of Educational Technology Development

Department Specific Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Three (3) years of practical experience in electronic and mechanical assembly

  • Two (2) years of experience working with simulation systems and supporting technical equipment

Knowledge Skills and Attitudes:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word PowerPoint and Excel

  • Strong multitasking and troubleshooting skills

  • Flexibility with work hours

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
