About the Team

AEMOs System Design division are a dynamic team at the forefront of Australias energy transformation. As we drive the shift to renewables and electrification across sectors our Onboarding and Connections Group plays a vital role in connecting and registering new generators in the National Electricity Market. Be part of the action as we shape the future of our power system.

About the role

Join AEMOs Onboarding and Connections Group as a key player in integrating over 160 GW of new renewable and storage technologies into the National Electricity Market over the next 30 this Melbourne-based role youll collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholdersfrom network service providers and developers to government and industry groupsto model assess and optimise new generator connections. Youll translate complex technical challenges into clear insights help shape Australias energy future and develop your reputation through industry engagement and mentoring opportunities.

What you will be doing

  • Collaborate with network service providers connection applicants and equipment manufacturers to negotiate performance standards and oversee commissioning activities.
  • Conduct power system simulations and analysis to evaluate grid connection requirements for large-scale generators.
  • Assess generator connection models reactive power plants and control systems for compliance and performance.
  • Interpret simulation results and provide clear recommendations on technical performance requirements.
  • Prepare high-quality written and verbal communications for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Enhance and maintain analysis and reporting tools to support business needs and improve team efficiency.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and build strong relationships with industry stakeholders.

What you will bring to the role

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or other discipline relevant to power systems analysis
  • More than 2 years experience working with a market operator/ in the energy sector in a similar role
  • Minimum two years experience as an Engineer
  • Demonstrated technical experience in leading/contributing to technical project teams
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively delivering and contributing towards projects
  • Well-developed experience in managing generator connection processes with experience in assessing and resolving generator and power system performance issues
  • Understanding of negotiation requirements of technical issues with commercial and reputational drivers
  • Understanding of the key technical issues impacting large scale infrastructure projects and the commercial drivers of generation developers
  • Ability to communicate technical/engineering concepts to a non-technical audience in a clear and easy to understand language.
