The Washington State Charter School Commission (CSC) seeks to fill a Business Manager in the Commision. Thisfull-time permanentpositionis based in Olympia Washington. This position may be eligible for partial telework after onboarding/training is complete. Telework is a combination of in-building and off-site days.

The Washington State Charter School Commission (Commission) is an independent state agency. Our mission is to authorize high-quality charter public schools especially those designed to expand opportunities for students historically underserved in public education and to ensure the highest standards of accountability and oversight.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer the Business Manager ensures the integrity and equity of the Commissions internal operations. This role is critical in advancing the agencys commitments to accountability transparency and inclusion.


Because the Commission is a small agency with statewide impact the Business Manager must bring strong technical expertise and a systems-builder mindsetsomeone who designs tests and strengthens processes in collaboration with staff and partners. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment balancing priorities effectively and embed equity into operational decisions.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Serve as the agencys Public Records Officer ensuring timely transparent responses.
  • Manage financial processing of agency transactions in compliance with state standards.
  • Administer agency contracts and monitor compliance with clear equitable procedures.
  • Lead procurement processes from start to finish ensuring equity transparency and compliance.
  • Support development of agency biennial and supplemental budget requests.
  • Support Commission meeting planning and logistics.
  • Maintain and update agency electronic files and records.
  • Collaborate with staff to co-design sustainable accessible operational systems that reflect Commission values.
  • Contribute to agency-wide initiatives aligned with the strategic plan.
  • Other duties as assigned


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration or equivalent professional background. We value experience gained in community nonprofit tribal or other equity-centered environments.
  • Minimum five years experience in finance and accounting procurement or operations.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive work culture and environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and improve systems in a fast-paced small-agency non-profit small business or start-up environment.
  • Evidence of advancing equity transparency and inclusion in organizational systems or decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse communities.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with change management or system-building in a start-up nonprofit or public agency.
  • Strong understanding of equitable organizational business functions.
  • Comfort with technology and digital tools for collaboration and data management.
  • Ability to translate technical process into elevated language for diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with state contracting and procurement processes.
  • Working knowledge of the State Administrative & Accounting Manual (SAAM).



COMPENSATION

The annual compensation for the position is $87550-$108000 and depends upon experience educational background and qualifications. Washington State offers a generous benefit package including health dental and life insurance retirement and an optional deferred compensation program. This position is exempt and serves at the pleasure of the Executive Director. This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
