Job Summary

The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing financial aspects of assigned projects including budgeting cost tracking revenue recognition billing and project financial reporting. This role is ideal for someone highly analytical detail-oriented and comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams in a remote setting.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the full project accounting cycle for multiple concurrent projects

Prepare project budgets cost forecasts and variance analyses

Monitor project expenses labor hours and committed costs to ensure accuracy

Perform project billing invoicing and revenue recognition in compliance with company policies and GAAP

Track contract terms change orders and client payment schedules

Review timesheets subcontractor invoices and vendor payments related to project work

Partner with Project Managers to provide financial insight and support strategic decisions

Prepare monthly WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules and project status reports

Reconcile project accounts and ensure accurate general ledger postings

Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities

Maintain organized project documentation and audit compliance

Resolve financial discrepancies and client billing inquiries in a timely manner

Support internal and external audit requests

Identify process improvement opportunities within project accounting operations

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field

3 years of progressive accounting experience preferably in project-based industries

(e.g. construction engineering IT services consulting energy)

Strong understanding of GAAP and project revenue recognition

Experience with ERP or accounting software such as QuickBooks NetSuite Deltek Sage Oracle or Microsoft Dynamics

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP Pivot Tables formulas data analysis)

Excellent financial reporting and analytical skills

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Strong communication and teamwork capabilities

Preferred Qualifications

CPA CMA or PMP certification (nice to have)

Experience with Percent-of-Completion (POC) accounting

Prior work experience in government contracts or multi-entity environments

Familiarity with job costing and WIP accounting

Remote Work Requirements

Must be located in the United States

Reliable high-speed internet connection

Ability to work during core business hours (EST or CST preferred)
