Job Summary

SALARY: $18.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY: The Aquatics Coordinator will assist the Aquatics Manager with overall planning development management and supervision of all aquatic and ice programs and facility operations for the Recreation Division of Venues Parks & Arts. These facilities include East Race Waterway Howard Park Ice Trail and Kennedy Water Playground. This is a Part-Time position that ranges up to 29 hours per week.

SCHEDULE: Schedule Varies based on operation

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Responsible for supervision of staff. Ex: Lifeguards Swim Instructors Aqua Aerobics Instructor East Race Driver & Haulers cashiers skate guards skate instructors and skate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must have enthusiasm and possess excellent customer service skills and excellent communication skills to staff guests and program participants.
  • Be able to communicate and enforce policies and procedures to staff program participants and guests.
  • Recruits trains schedules supervises and evaluates aquatics and ice staff.
  • Conducts specific and necessary training for staff and keeps records required by the American Red Cross the State Board of Health and the Recreation Division.
  • Enforce and maintain a clean safe fully stocked and well-organized work area.
  • Handles and resolves aquatics concerns. Involves supervisor in situations that they may need assistance with.
  • Fills in direct programming when necessary; this includes lifeguarding and swim lesson instruction.
  • Knows and follows correct emergency procedures and fills out incidence reports; administers proper first aid and carries out those emergency procedures in the event of an emergency. Trains aquatics staff in these procedures.
  • Cultivates and manages partnership relationships with external/community stakeholders and other VPA divisions in the development coordination and implementation of aquatic programs activities and events.
  • Maintains equipment inventory.
  • Helps department maintain national accreditation.
  • Oversees setup and utilization software for online program/event/league registration customer relationship management and data tracking/reporting.
  • Assist with updating and maintaining Aquatic webpages on the department website and social media.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred Bachelors Degree in Parks & Recreation Physical Education Aquatics or closely related field.
  • Prior supervisory level experience for waterfront/pool and lifeguarding (2 years preferred)
  • Working knowledge of City or County government a plus.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
  • Working knowledge of programming activities related to diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment policies procedures and strategies that directly affect the operation of aquatic related programming.
  • Working knowledge of contracts contract governance contractual language and the contract lifecycle.
  • Working knowledge of program marketing communication and social media skills is a plus.
  • Standard computer proficiency. Ability to learn setup and operate various software for camp/clinic registration customer management and reporting.
  • The ability to communicate orally and express in writing information and ideas.
  • The ability to supervise and coordinate work activities or personnel such as training staff members and assigning work duties.
  • Ability to think creatively by developing designing or creating appropriate programming.
  • Scheduling staff.

CERTIFICATES LICENSE REGISTRATION:

  • Valid Drivers license or ability to obtain one required.
  • Base level lifeguard certification preferred; required within 6 months Lifeguard instructor preferred; required within 12 months.
  • Water Safety Instructor certification preferred; will be required to obtain within 12 months
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification required
  • Administrating Emergency Oxygen Certification required
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor or First Aid/CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Instructor preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office setting or in the field with moderate inside or outside temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office and moderately loud in the field. Entire facility inside and outside is smoke free.
