Job Description

Patient Access Representative Job Description

We are looking for a patient access representative to be the first point of contact for patients and assist them in obtaining medical care. The patient access representatives responsibilities include verifying patient demographics distributing and collecting patient paperwork explaining policies and procedures and handling patient queries and concerns.

To be successful as a patient access representative you should be able to perform administrative tasks with high efficiency and always maintain a positive and professional demeanor. Ultimately a top patient access representative is compassionate and committed to helping people.

Patient Access Representative Responsibilities:

  • Greets visitors patients and families in a friendly professional manner and directs them appropriately.

  • Maintains an efficient patient flow through the registration process and provides excellent customer service to patients/families.

  • Effectively communicates problems concerns or issues to the Office Supervisor / Manager appropriately and promptly

  • Collecting information such as patient demographics insurance information copay and outstanding balances.

  • Entering information into databases and maintaining accurate records.

  • Relaying information to clinical staff members.

  • Informing patients and their caregivers of office procedures policies and protocols.

  • Providing patients with billing and payment information.

  • Dealing with patient questions and concerns

  • Performs various clerical duties such as faxing photocopying scanning filing and mailing

  • Scans the insurance card processes insurance verifications utilizing the online system and updates the patient account. Update patient information including demographics insurance HIPAA forms new patient forms and patient history forms (for clinical offices)

  • Effectively communicates problems concerns or issues to the Office Supervisor / Manager appropriately and promptly

Patient Access Representative Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED.

  • Experience in a clerical position preferred.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance plans is beneficial.

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry systems.

  • Ability to multitask and maintain strong attention to detail.

  • Compassionate and patient.

  • Professional demeanor.
