Veterinary Technician - Emergency
Full-Time 12-hour Shifts
Rockville MD
Metropolitan Animal Emergency and Specialty Center is looking for a Veterinary Technician to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.

About You
As a Veterinary Technician youll play an important role in pets lives by providing comprehensive care throughout their journey. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests to surgery assistance to support services including admitting and discharging patients.
Experience & Skills Requirements:
  • Veterinary technician licensure strongly preferred but not required LVT/CVT/RVT/LVMT encouraged to apply
  • 2-3 years of clinical experience as a veterinary technician or assistant required
  • Must have Emergency Veterinary clinical experience
  • Strong communication skills required
  • An Associates or Bachelors degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred; or the equivalent combination of education training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
  • Must be proficient in phlebotomy; able to obtain prepare and interpret laboratory samples including but not limited to blood feces urine skin etc
  • Must be confident in IVC placement and maintenance
  • Must be proficient in blood smears cytology preparation and interpretation
  • Must be familiar with and confident in common radiographic positioning techniques and image capture
  • Must be familiar with CPR; candidates with RECOVER BLS/ALS certification encouraged to apply
  • Must have experience and confidence in administering anesthesia and monitoring patients during anesthetic events
Role Responsibilities:
  • Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care advocate for pets and educate clients.
  • With each hospital function assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
  • Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with your states Veterinary Practice Act outlined for credentialed veterinary technicians.
  • Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options medications and additional treatments.
  • Assist in maintaining relevant comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems.
  • Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts.
  • Use safe restraining techniques follow standard protocols and sustain clean sterile organized treatment areas exam rooms and labs.
  • Be willing to guide mentor and support fellow team members.

Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with a hourly pay rate starting at$24 -$28/hour if non-credentialed $34-$36/hour if credentialed. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills qualifications experience and location.
