Job Summary and Responsibilities

  • Through experience and continuing education is able to continually improve upon the patient care provided and is able to provide education and clinical expertise across department lines.
  • Participates as a member of a team and keeps the goals of the organization as a whole in mind at all times with respect to fiscal ethical moral and legal obligations.
  • Performs value added activities that result in positive financial performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Provides extra-corporeal circulation to cardiac surgery patients while preserving the body tissues in as normal a state as possible.

Provides Extracorporeal circulation and circulatory assistance for cardiac compromised patients. Administers medications blood products IV fluids and monitors hemodynamic and metabolic status of the patient. Maintains a record for individual procedures as well as a database for each patient.

Job Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelors Degree and be a graduate of a Certified School of Perfusion Education.

Previous experience is helpful but not required.

New graduates must have completed a minimum of 100 clinical perfusions.

Must be American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion certified or eligible.

Nebraska State Licensed as a Perfusionist. BLS required within 3 months of employment. ACLS certificate requirement as determined by site.

Must be proficient in all areas of Extra-Corporeal circulation. Experience with extracorporeal equipment and associated devices including but not limited to autotransfusion machines point of care lab analyzers monitoring systems electronic charting in-line blood gas analyzers heater coolers intra-aortic balloon pumps and safety devices. Experience with initiation management supervision and transport of ECMO and ECPR patients and associated equipment.
