About the Role
Asphalt Surfacing Company is on the hunt for anAccountant to join its team! This position plays a key role in managing day-to-day accounting operations and keeping the office running smoothly from payroll and job cost tracking to vendor management and project support. The ideal candidate enjoys working with numbers solving problems and will support the finance and project management teams to help ensure projects stay on track and finances stay accurate.
What Youll Do
Accounting & Payroll
- Prepare and process weekly payroll and quarterly reporting for approximately 45 employees.
- Set up new jobs and upload estimates into the accounting system.
- Track and record equipment and fuel costs by job.
- Prepare verify and process vendor invoices for approval and payment.
- Manage weekly check runs and reconcile monthly credit card statements.
- Process subcontractor agreements and verify compliance with insurance lien waivers and tax certificates.
- Handle accounts receivable billing deposits and collection calls as needed.
- Reconcile vendor subcontractor and intercompany accounts regularly.
- Prepare journal entries and general ledger adjustments.
Project & Administrative Support
- Support the Project Management and Estimating teams with job setup change orders and documentation.
- Generate and track subcontract packages and follow up on outstanding contract documents.
- Maintain billing and payment tracking spreadsheets and project documentation.
- Scan and organize tickets logs and files daily.
- Manage office operations including mail distribution answering phones and maintaining organized records.
- Provide professional and timely communication with vendors customers and subcontractors.
- Assist company leadership with reports reconciliations and administrative tasks as needed.
What Youll Bring
- Associates degree in Accounting Finance or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 35 years of accounting or office management experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles payroll and reconciliation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word Outlook Project) and accounting software (Sage/Timberline a plus!).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- High attention to detail accuracy and confidentiality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a positive professional demeanor.
- A proactive attitude and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Adaptability to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
