Medical Technologist (MT MLS or CLS) VA Medical Center

@Orchard LLC is proud to support the mission of serving our Veterans through providing talented staff for the VA nationwide. We have an immediate need for Medical Technologists in Central Alabama to work onsite providing critical care support. This is a full-time salaried role that requires flexibility to work a few different schedules detailed below.
As the Medical Technologist working under the direction of VA staff you will perform generalist clinical lab testing: Chemistry Hematology Coagulation Blood Bank Immunology and Urinalysis.
Other responsibilities include:
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and troubleshoot issues.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of lab results; notify providers of critical values.
- Participate in quality control calibration and proficiency testing.
- Document all processes per VA and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure continuous lab coverage.
Your demonstrated skills and experience will include:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a generalist Medical Technologist
- Generalist skillsacross key lab areas: Chemistry Hematology Coagulation Blood Bank Immunology and Urinalysis; Microbiology preferred
- Proficiency in instrument operation maintenance and troubleshooting
- Strong quality control and regulatory compliance capabilities including proficiency testing calibration and documentation per Joint Commission CAP and AABB standards.
- Experience in notifying providers of critical values and ensuring accurate result reporting
- Ability to prioritize workload efficiently including during rotating weekends and multiple shifts.
Education & Certification
- Board certification (MT MLS or CLS) by ASCP or AMT is required.
- Bachelors degreein a relevant science field and completion of a clinical practice program.
Shift Schedule
- Regular: 07:30 AM 4:00 PM Monday to Friday with rotating weekends.
- Second shift: 03:30 PM - 12:00 AM including rotating weekends.
- Third shift: 12:00 AM - 8:30 AM including weekends.
- 7 on / 7 off shift work is desired.
- Other shifts as needed by the service
Compensation: $50000 $65000 commensurate with demonstrated skill and experience.
