Carrier Operations Manager Description The Carrier Operations Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing the companys carrier network and executional performance. This role oversees a carrier-focused team to ensure consistent high-quality coverage of customer freight carrier relationship development executional problem solving and data integrity. The Carrier Operations Manager fosters an environment of proactive communication continuous improvement and accountability across the department. This leader is responsible for driving process adherence and innovation within carrier operations ensuring all load activity is executed with accuracy timeliness and alignment to customer requirements. The Carrier Operations Manager partners closely with Customer Operations and Support teams to ensure carrier strategies align with broader service expectations. Duties and responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Carrier Strategy & Network Management - Lead the development implementation and performance monitoring of carrier sourcing strategies to meet customer and network needs.
- Monitor and adjust carrier allocation plans based on network imbalances seasonal volumes and changing market conditions.
- Build and maintain strategic carrier relationships ensuring compliance with RWI standards and performance goals.
- Drive the adoption and expansion of committed capacity strategies including primary routing guides reviewing and approving published rates and time period of agreement.
- Collaborate with strategic sourcing and analysts on rate benchmarking service level expectations and carrier bid strategies.
Team Leadership & Performance Management - Directly supervise and coach a team of carrier account managers and same day coverage.
- Set clear expectations and KPIs for load coverage call/email cadence carrier compliance and system updates.
- Conduct regular team check-ins 1:1s and performance reviews to drive accountability and professional development.
- Ensure proper shift coverage cross-training and back-up support plans are in place to maintain coverage consistency.
- Lead by example with urgency professionalism and a high standard of carrier communication.
Load Coverage & Execution Oversight - Monitor daily load coverage across assigned business units ensuring timely booking of freight at competitive and compliant rates.
- Serve as the point of escalation for carrier service issues including loads stolen or held hostage back solicitation equipment failure communication lapses and OS&D.
- Enforce proper documentation of carrier communication accessorials and critical notes in the TMS.
- Partner with Customer Operations to prioritize urgent shipments execute recovery plans and provide proactive updates.
Data Integrity & Operational Compliance - Ensure team adherence to operational workflows and use of Transportation Management System (TMS) for load entry carrier selection updates and finalization.
- Audit load details for accuracy in documentation status changes carrier instructions and tracking events.
- Drive compliance with internal SLAs and ensure carrier performance metrics are captured accurately.
- Support clean billing by ensuring appropriate carrier documentation (PODs BOLs accessorial approvals) is collected and uploaded.
Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration - Identify workflow inefficiencies training needs or carrier execution gaps and develop corrective action plans.
- Partner with department leaders to enhance TMS tools streamline processes and increase visibility.
- Provide input on carrier scorecarding procurement strategies and routing guide performance.
- Collaborate with Afterhours and Operations teams to ensure continuity of service and visibility across shifts.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional initiatives focused on improving carrier engagement and execution reliability.

Qualifications Qualifications to perform the job successfully include: Education: 4-year degree in Business Supply Chain Logistics preferred Experience: 3 years of experience in transportation brokerage operations or carrier sales. 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience within a fast-paced logistics environment. Skills & Technical Proficiency - Proficiency in Transportation Management Systems (MercuryGate preferred) Microsoft Excel and communication tools (Outlook Teams Slack).
- Strong negotiation communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical day-to-day execution.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret KPIs root causes and operational trends.
