Key Responsibilities
Conduct metallurgical analysis including microstructural examination hardness testing and failure investigation.
Evaluate material properties and performance to ensure compliance with relevant specifications and standards (e.g. ASTM AMS ISO).
Support the development and qualification of new materials coatings and heat treatment processes.
Provide technical guidance on material selection corrosion prevention and manufacturing methods.
Prepare detailed metallurgical reports and present findings to engineering and quality teams.
Support root cause investigations of material- or process-related non-conformances.
Collaborate with design manufacturing and quality departments to resolve technical issues and improve product reliability.
Maintain awareness of new developments in materials science manufacturing processes and industry standards.
Ensure all metallurgical work complies with applicable health safety and environmental requirements.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Bachelors degree (BEng/BSc) in Metallurgy Materials Science or related engineering discipline (with metallurgy/material knowledge) is essential.
Workplace experience in metallurgical engineering is highly desirable preferably in a related industry e.g. aerospace/manufacturing.
Strong understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys heat treatment and material failure mechanisms.
Experience with metallographic preparation microscopy and analytical techniques (e.g. SEM EDS XRF).
Familiarity with relevant industry standards (e.g. AMS ASTM ISO NADCAP).
Proficient in technical report writing and interpretation of engineering drawings/specifications.
Competent in root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies (e.g. 8D FMEA).
