Job Summary

Harvard-Westlake School is seeking applications for the position of Upper School Academic Support Specialist. This is a full-time temporary position covering a family leave from December 15 2025 through March 20 2026.

This position guides students in grades 10-12 in cultivating effective learning habits and supports the academic growth of all students. Candidates should have deep knowledge of learning differences current and accepted brain research and methodologies and evidence-based interventions. They should also demonstrate cultural competency in their work with students families faculty and other stakeholders as part of the Learning Center team.

Areas of focus will include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting a targeted caseload of students within the Learning Center focusing on academic skill development and individualized learning strategies.
  • Holding one-on-one meetings with students to strengthen executive functioning including planning organization work completion communication and self-advocacy skills.
  • Designing and leading workshops for students on topics such as study skills executive functioning time management and academic strategies for specific subjects.
  • Collaborating closely with faculty and administrators to serve as an advocate and liaison for students and families regarding learning differences and individualized academic needs.
  • Partnering with teachers to support differentiated instruction and to foster a student-centered environment that aligns with Harvard-Westlakes rigorous academic standards.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to exchange accurate information in a professional and empathetic manner with families students faculty staff and outside professionals.

Education and Experience
Required:

  • Bachelors degree in education or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching or supporting students with diagnosed learning differences or working as a learning specialist with students in grades 1012.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based instructional practices and strategies that promote student independence organization and academic success.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty administrators and families to implement individualized learning plans and accommodations.

Preferred:

  • Masters degree in education educational administration special education or a related field.
  • Knowledge of current assistive technologies neuroscience research and differentiated instruction to support a wide range of learners.

Schedule: Typically Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with events as needed.


Compensation: Anticipated base compensation for this position will be prorated based on an annualized salary range between $85000 and $95000 depending on experience and the actual length of the contract. This temporary position is eligible for health benefits (medical dental and vision) during the coverage period.
